Structure and thermal state of west carpathian litosphere : hot dry rock energy sources potential of Slovakia

Project code: APVV-0724-11

Project abstract

Our project is from the research branch of the geothermal sources bounded with the exploitation by the hot dry rock method. The enhancement of the actual knowledge about the potential sources of Slovakia (obtained mainly in eighties) is the main task of the project. The revaluation will be based on newest knowledge about the structure and the evolution of West Carpathians, on the known thermal characteristics and on the complementary geological and geophysical measurements, of the interpretations and of the modeling achieved within the project. The instrumental equipment of the solving organizations and the progressive research approaches of the geosciences ( 2D and 3D synthetic interpretations, geothermal transient modeling, integrated modeling, ) will be used by these activities. The project is methodically based on progressive separation of the perspective geothermal regions and on precision of the parameters defining the energetic, geological and geophysical parameters of the potential hot dry rock sources. The evaluation of the qualitative and quantitative parameters of the source regions and the map outputs of the whole region under study and also of the selected perspective partial regions will be the conclusive result of the project. The outputs will be related to various forms of the energetic utilization. The specifications of the source regions will serve as a ground for more precise exploration for concrete use of the source.
